Map information: querying anything on the chart

Every element on your Aqua Map chart is tappable, and tapping it is the fastest way to find out what it is, where it sits, and what you can do with it. Depending on what you select, you'll get the two most relevant actions for that object shown as icons on either side of the pop-up.

The Map information pop-up

Tap anywhere on the chart, and a map information pop-up appears, with its content changing based on whatever you selected. When you tap an empty spot with no specific object nearby, you'll see a basic Quick Info box instead.

That default box includes the following options.

  • A button on the left  to start creating a new route from that exact point.
  • A middle section showing, top to bottom, the description of the most relevant object at that location, the Mile Marker for that point (currently US waterways only, where available) along with the bearing and distance from your current GPS position, and finally the point's coordinates.
  • A button on the right  to drop a new marker at that position.

Depending on what you've tapped, you may see additional actions too, as follows.

  • Open a dedicated info page with everything known about the selected object.
  • Edit an existing route.
  • Share the selected object.
  • Start a chat with a Live Sharing user.
  • Run a Tide & Current prediction simulation.
  • Open a linked photo, when one is available for that object.

If the pop-up is sitting somewhere inconvenient, just press and hold the small blue cross below it, then drag it anywhere on the screen you like.

The map information details page

Tap the center of the pop-up, and a new page opens listing every object near the point you selected, useful when several things overlap in the same spot.

This page always includes a few fixed elements. At the top, you'll see the exact coordinates of the tapped point, tap them to edit and jump straight to a new location. Just below that, a weather summary for the selected position, tap it for a full weather forecast. Getting the forecast requires an active internet connection and an Aqua Map Master subscription.

Below the weather row, you'll find a list of everything else at that position, users, map objects, and other data layers, each with a brief description. Tap any row to dig into the full details.
