This page contains the options to enable and configure all the Aqua Map functionalities.
You can open the page using the button on the bottom right part of the screen.
To improve the easy of use, the settings are divided in sections (each one with its own background color) inside the page.
Most of the rows have a switch to quickly toggle ON/OFF the corresponding data display or functionality and a "Settings" button (on the right) that opens a dedicated page with all the options available for that functionality.
Help
At the top of this page you have the section to help you understand the Aqua Map behaviours.
- Help: to open an online page with the details of all the available functionalities (substantially the same you are using now).
- Tutorial: to open a brief summary of the main functionalities and gestures available in Aqua Map.
NOTE: available only in iOS.
Aqua Map charts store
Then you have the section to access the catalog of available Aqua Map charts and see all the charts you have already purchased. From this page you can also restore your previously purchased charts.
Tap on the "list of charts" button to access the charts list divided by continents and countries.
My boat
Then you have the section to set all the personal and boat parameters.
Tapping on the Settings button on this row, will open a dedicated page where you can set your boat's characteristics (type, average speed, draft, ...). Most of the information entered in this section will be used by the other Aqua Map functionalities (eg Route Explorer).

Basic chart options
The first main section allows to select the data to be added to the nautical charts display.
Here you can also access the Aqua Map charts store, to buy any needed chart.
- Land data: to select how to display the land part of the map (full road network, POIs, etc.). The options are: "Normal" (full display), "Faded" (drawn in a semi-transparent way) and "Hidden" (not drawn). This setting will not impact in any way how the nautical data information is drawn.
NOTE: in areas where the nautical charts are in Raster format it is not possible to see the Land data. - Online satellite images: to enable the display of the satellite images as a layer on top of the map. When enabling this layer, a slider will appear on the map display (on the lower-right) to fade the satellite images with the nautical charts.
- Additional rasters overlay: to enable the display of the available raster charts as a layer on top of the map.
NOTE: Only in some areas (eg Bahamas) the additional raster charts are availables. - Tides & Currents display: to enable the display of the Tide and Tidal current stations as icons on the map.
NOTE: currently T&C are available only for the North America and Oceania. - Fishing Charts: to enable and configure the display of any purchased Fishing Charts. Fishing Charts are charts that give extra information in certain areas.
Anchor Alarm
This section allows to enable and configure the Anchor Alarm functionality.
To setup all the Anchor Alarm parameters and the anchor position, see the dedicated settings page.
Aqua Map Master
This section contains all the functionalities that are unlocked with the Aqua Map Master subscription. This is an additional subscription that you can enable in the app and that will add a set of advanced functionalities.
- Aqua Map Master: this row shows the status of your Aqua Map Master subscription. If "Active" it means this subscription is currently purchased, otherwise you will see "Upgrade", that means your Master subscription is not yet enabled.
Tapping on the "Upgrade" or "Active" button you will see a description of all the functionalities available with this additional subscription. - Marine forecast: to enable and configure the overlay of the Marine forecast data on the map. Currently you can show on the map: Surface currents, Wind and Waves.
- Weather buoys display: to enable the overlay of a set of icons representing weather buoys that give access to real time weather condition at their location. Check the Marine forecast page for more details.
- Route Explorer: to enable the visualization of the Route Explorer window on the map while navigating a route. Setting off this switch will not disable the Route Explorer functionality, the info will still be available in the detail page for all your tracks and routes. To setup all the Route Explorer parameters, see the dedicated settings page.
- AIS: to enable the overlay of the AIS targets on the map. To see the AIS targets you must receive the AIS data stream through a Wi-Fi connection (see item below). To setup the AIS display and the collision avoidance feature, see the dedicated settings page.
- Wi-Fi connections: to create and manage a connection between Aqua Map and your vessel's devices transmitting NMEA or SignalK (only iOS) data via Wi-Fi. To setup a connection, see the dedicated settings page.
- USACE surveys: to enable the overlay of the USACE (US Army Corps of Engineers) hydrographic surveys data on the map. To setup what to display and how, see the dedicated settings page.
- Coast guard data: to enable the overlay of the US Coast Guard (Local Notice to Mariners and List of Lights) and Canada Coast Guard (NAVWARNs) data on the map.
Sharing & Communities
This section is related to the GEC Account and all the Communities data available in Aqua Map.
- GEC Account: the GEC Account is the official Aqua Map account that you can use to archive your "User data" (Routes, Markers, Tracks) and share for free your Aqua Map purchases with up to 5 different devices (on iOS and Android). You can access to the GEC Account directly from the app (tapping on the "Sign in" button) or from the Aqua Map website (Login).
- Live Sharing: to enable the Aqua Map community and to overlay your friends boat on the map. To manage the Live Sharing settings see the dedicated settings page.
- ActiveCaptain: to enable the overlay of the data from the ActiveCaptain community on the map. To download the ActiveCaptain data and configure the data display, see the dedicated settings page.
- Waterway Guide: to enable the overlay of the data from the Waterway Guide community on the map. To download the Waterway Guide data and configure the data display, see the dedicated settings page.
- Crowdsourced Bathymetry: to partecipate to the Crowdsourced Bathymetry Initiative, organized by the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO). To enable this functionality, see the dedicated settings page.
Map appearance
This section allows to configure the appearance of the map and menus.
- Menu appearance: to select the Light or Dark appearance for all the menus, buttons and windows; the "Auto" setting selects automatically the Light or Dark style depending on the device setting.
NOTE: this feature is available only on iOS 13.0 and higher. - Map appearance: to select the Day or Night map drawing style; the "Auto" setting selects automatically the Day or Night style depending on the device appearance (Light, Dark) setting.
NOTE: Night mode is intended to be used only in low luminosity; under direct sun or in bright conditions the contrast will be too low. - Depth colouring: to select the shading style for the depth areas. "Standard" will draw the depth areas as in the paper charts where the colouring starts from blue for the shallowest depth and shades to white for depth areas deeper than 20m. "Natural", vice versa try to reproduce the way you see the sea colors in nature, starts from white for the shallowest depth and shades to dark blue for depth areas deeper than 3500m.
NOTE: this feature does not work in areas with Raster charts. - Safety depth: to enter your safety depth. This value will define the limit of the shaded depth areas. All the depth areas deeper than the Safety Depth will be drawn as white if you selected Standard as Depth Colouring and as dark blu if you selected Natural). Depth areas shallower than the “Safety depth” will continue to be shaded as previously.
NOTE: this feature does not work in areas with Raster charts. - Perspective view: to select when and how the perspective view is activated. Perspective view (also named Bird's Eye view) is a map drawing technique where the point of view is not perpendicular to the map but oblique (like looking at the horizont). Set "Never" to disable this kind of map display, set "Manual" to have the possibility to enable/disable it using the swipe up/down (with 2 fingers) gesture on the map, set "Auto" to have it automatically enabled when the map is set in Heading up mode and disabled when the map is set in North up mode. When you select the Auto option, you can still enable/disable the Perspective view manually (2 fingers swipe up/down).
- Map visibility: Here you can control the size of all the icons and texts displayed on the map. For more details see the dedicated settings page.
Unit of measures
This section allows to select the different unit options.
- Depth/Elevation unit: to set your preferred depth (or elevation) unit between foot (ft) and meter (m).
NOTE: in areas where the charts are in Raster format this setting will not impact the map display. - Distance unit: to set your preferred distance unit between Nautical Mile (NM), kilometer (km) and statute mile (mi). NM/m is a special settings for people used to meters but that prefer to have NM as "big distance" unit.
- Temperature unit: to set your preferred temperature unit between Fahrenheit (°F) and Celsius (°C) degrees.
- Fuel unit: to set your preferred fuel unit between gallon (G) and litre (l).
- Coordinates format: to set your preferred coordinates format between DMS.s (Degrees Minute Seconds and fraction of second) and DM.m (Degrees Minutes and fraction of minute).
- Degrees (T or M): to set your preferred direction reference between Magnetic and True. This means that if you select True all the angles that refer to the North will refer to the True North (position of the North Pole on the Earth), if you select Magnetic the angles will be corrected considering the known Magnetic Earth field deviations using the updated WMM2020 model.
Downloaded maps
This section allows to manage how the maps are updated and how are stored in the device.
- Automatic updates: to select how (and if) automatically update your downloaded maps and additional data. See the dedicated settings page for more details.
- Downloaded maps: shows the amount of memory occupied by the downloaded maps (eg 633 MB) and allows to remove ALL the downloaded maps from the device by pressing the "RESET" button. You can also delete the Downloaded maps tile by tile from the Chart Download page.
- Allow IOS to delete maps in case of low available space: is you set ON this switch, iOS could remove the downloaded map tiles in case of low memory space.
UI settings
This section allows to select the basic UI behaviours.
- Sounds effects: to enable the UI sound effects (eg when pressing a button).
NOTE: this switch has no impact on the Anchor Alarm sound.
NOTE: available only in iOS. - UI Animation effects: to enable the UI animation effects applied while opening and closing windows.
NOTE: available only in iOS. - Buttons Auto-Hide: to enable the automatic hiding of the map buttons each time you are not touching the screen for more than 10 seconds.
NOTE: after the Auto-hide is active it is enough to touch the screen anywhere to have the buttons reappear. - Disable Auto-Lock: to disable the automatic lock of the device. If this option is ON means the device will never automatically lock. You can still lock the device manually.
NOTE: pay attention about the battery consumption when this option is ON because the device will never go in screen lock.
Footer
In the last section you have some additional options.
- Restore purchases: allows to restore any purchase done in the app.
- Disclaimer and Acknowledgement, Terms and conditions and Privacy Policy: allow to access this important info about the Aqua Map application.
- Contact support: by pressing the button you will have the opportunity to send an email to the Aqua Map support team (support@aquamap.app) to request support, report a bug or submit a suggestion for future enhancement.
