With Aqua Map you can partecipate in the Crowdsourced Bathymetry Initiative, promoted by the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO), with the aim of improving the accuracy and timeliness of nautical chart updates.
By turning on this functionality, Aqua Map will record the location of your vessel and depth info from your depth sounder and transmit them to the IHO server via NOAA.
Recordings can only be made if the application receives depth information from a depth sounder (connected to Aqua Map using a Wifi Connection). To avoid using the mobile data band, the accumulated data will then be transmitted only when the device is connected to a WiFi network.
Crowdsourced Bathymetry settings
From the general Settings page you can open the Crowdsourced Bathymetry settings page, where you can decide to partecipate to this important project.
All the data recorded and transmitted with this functionality will be shared under the "Creative Commons: CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication" license.
You can decide to share the data in an anonymous form (without sharing any identifying information about the boat: MMSI, boat name) by enabling the Send data anonymously switch.
